The first phase of NetThink 21’s IT Support project for MetroAmp has been completed successfully. The entire MetroAmp.com website was migrated to a new server with minimal downtime. The online store, discussion forum, SSL certificate, and website content are back online and functioning correctly.
The move was made more complex by the old server’s lack of control panel and out of date operating system. Backups had to be performed manually via command line interface. The new destination server offers easier management via a control panel and up to date operating system. Convenient administration is critical for such a large website, with an online forum of several thousand users, and an online store with hundreds of products.
Moving the website on a new dedicated server included the following tasks:
- Back up mySQL databases using SSH access
- Set up new databases and import data
- Configure dedicated server: DNS, nameserver, mailserver, IP address
- Move and upgrade phpBB discussion software with no data loss
- Move E-Commerce installation while maintaining products and users
- Re-Key SSL certificate for secure server
- Migrate website content
Now that the migration is complete, the next phase will comprise graphic design and web development for MetroAmp.com and the family of websites associated with Metropoulos Amplification.
